With the word 'Marhaba' an elderly woman greeted me in her poor house in Cairo. The Arabic word means 'welcome' and includes congratulations in the greeting.

With this photographic series of ten images, I tried to give my Egyptian life experience an anti-documentary form in favour of staging and abstraction. I deliberately removed fleeting moments and casually details from their narrative context and exposed them in front of monochrome colour surfaces. The approach to the 'loud' visual advertising language is contradicted by persons and gestures in the shadow of the general attention.
