With the word 'Marhaba' an elderly woman greeted me in her poor house in Cairo. The Arabic word means 'welcome' and includes congratulations in the greeting.
With this photographic series of ten pictures I tried to give my experience of everyday Egyptian life a form that leaves the purely documentary behind in favour of staging and abstraction.
I deliberately removed moments and details from their narrative context and inserted them into monochromatic coloured surfaces.
The approach to the “loud” imagery of advertising contradicts people and gestures in the shadow of general attention.
