With her black and white photo installation “Hanging by a Thread”, the artist questions the influence of the global market and the weaving industry on culture, carpet design and the lives of women weaving carpets in rural Turkey today.
The title “Hanging by a Thread” means: to be in a dangerous situation, to be very close to death or failure – in this case: to the definitive disappearance of a very ancient tradition that has marked the history of Anatolia.
The photographs were taken in a carpet weaving workshop in Taşpinar in the province of Aksaray in Turkey.
