The Video-Installation “Bonetta” refers to the story of Sarah Forbes Bonetta, a Nigerian noble born in 1843. The artist uses this story as a metaphor for the condition of women divided between freedom and constraints. The video is a journey initially rooted in the past and then merging into a critical analysis of the present.
Bonetta highlights certain points of intersection between politics and art, history and the present, social norms and individual rebellion and requests to a peaceful revolution for more human rights and redefinition of identities in a global scenario that is becoming increasingly unstable and unpredictable.
